It’s a big summer for entertainment in Suffolk this year

Many people look forward to the regular programme of Newmarket Nights events in the summer and this year the line-up includes Paloma Faith, 17 June, Rudimental, 24 June, The Script, 15 July, Queen Symphonic, 22 July, Anne-Marie, 29 July, The Wombats, 5 August, and Pete Tong’s Ibiza Classics, 12 August.

But this year, there is also the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the Festival of Suffolk from May through to October.

Music of all types is the backbone of the Festival events with the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra on May 28 playing at St Edmundsbury Cathedral followed by the Philharmonic’s concert tour covering Bury St Edmunds, Eye, Carlton Marshes, Aldeburgh, Felixstowe and Hadleigh.

If classical music is not your thing there will be the Red Rooster Festival at Euston Hall, near Thetford, featuring Cajun, soul, rock n roll, blues, roots and country music. The Festival runs from June 2 to 4 and a beacon will be lit during the event to mark the Queen’s Jubilee.

Among those on the bill are Bluesman Seasick Steve, Nick Waterhouse, Joshua Hedley, Smoke Fairies, Marcus Bonfanti and Beth Rowley to name just a few.

Theatre and family entertainment have not been forgotten.

There will be a Best of British Show on June 4, at Thorington Theatre, near Southwold, and The Royal Hospital School’s Festival of the Sea will include a family picnic in the park alongside a concert.

Then in Felixstowe’s Spa Gardens on August 29 there will be a free open-air concert with the Festival Orchestra and the Felixstowe Community Choir.

There will be plenty to do without leaving the county, so why not treat yourself and let us drive you there and back in style.
