You don’t have to know anything about horses to go to the races

Are you planning a treat for someone special and in need of ideas or looking for something a bit different for all the family to enjoy in the next few months?

Whatever  is on your wish list, live music perhaps, or a special meal, a dress up event or something more casual, or even horse races,  there is a place in Suffolk where all these are on offer.

Where?  Newmarket Race Courses.

Music and entertainment

The season for the Newmarket Nights series of evening racing plus entertainment events starts on July 19 with THRILLER LIVE, straight from the West End.

Throughout the day there will also be free activities including Pacman or Space Invaders in the retro Arcade area, dressing up in the photo booth to capture a memento of the day, and dancing in the silent disco room with a DJ and three channels to listen to featuring 70s, 80s, and 90s music.

Music nights include a Rudimental DJ set on July 26, Pete Tong and the Heritage Orchestra performing Ibiza classics on August 2, Bananarama on August 9, and Years and Years on August 16.

Special race events and days

How about Gin and Fizz day, featuring races, accompanied by artisan gins and all things Prosecco, on July 20.

On July 27 it’s the School’s Out for Summer race day, with family entertainment featuring Paw Partol and Pup-Pup Boogie, plus a chance to try out some circus skills.

There will be a Peaky Blinders theme to the race event on August 3, then on August 10 it’s Royal British Legion day featuring racing with lots of entertainment including Assault Course Challenges for big and little kids alike, the Army Air Corps Lynx Helicopter and Laser Tag.

August 17 is Country Fair day and will feature races, along with traditional country crafts and demonstrations, while the Family Fun Day will round off the school holidays on August 23, featuring an appearance from everyone’s favourite bear; Paddington.

For those who know little about racing or betting there’s a handy beginners’ guide on the Racecourse website, along with a lot of information about planning and booking your day or evening.

Once you’ve decided on your programme and the date and booked the tickets, why not consider treating yourselves with transport there and back in style and comfort.  We love going to the races.
