Have you been missing the theatre?

Although the full lifting of all Covid-related restrictions has had to be delayed due to the surge in the Delta variant, theatres have been able to open for live shows subject to rules on social distancing.

This has meant smaller audiences and a greater need to book in advance.

If you’ve been craving a night out at a show here are some of the upcoming possibilities locally.

Suffolk

Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds: Irving Stage Company will be presenting Stephen Sondheim’s Company on June 15-19; June 22-24 will be Austentatious – an improvised comedy which conjures up a ‘lost’ Jane Austen novel. Tickets can be booked on the theatre website.

Eastern Angles, Ipswich: Sam Snape and the Curse of the Chillesford Chough! postponed Eastern Angles Christmas Show, a mad-cap comedy which will cross the film noir world of Raymond Chandler with a Suffolk equivalent of Father Brown as the eccentric sleuth tries to solve the mystery of the exploding sheep. runs from June 10-19 and tickets can be booked via the Eastern Angles website.

Regent, Ipswich: Officially re-opening on July 12, the Regent has a line-up of shows, including a dance extravaganza, Here come the Boys, featuring three Strictly favourite, Anton and Giovanni: Him and Me: Strictly stars Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice join forces for this dance spectacular. On July 21. Then from August 23-28 there’s a chance to see the hit musical Hairspray.

Spa Pavilion, Felixstowe; Kinky Boots, performed by the Dennis Lowe Theatre Company, will be showing from June 24-27. Throughout July there will be a host of tribute bands more information and tickets go to the Spa Pavilion website
